I’m sure y’all know by now how much of a proponent I am of self-care. It’s oh-so important and necessary to maintain some sort of life balance or what I like to call – your sanity. I’ve listed below a few things that help keep me sane, especially during the work week.
Tea Time – If I’ve had a particularly draining day, I like to end the night with a cup of hot tea in bed. Depending on what I’m in the mood for, I’ll either have green or chamomile tea to go along with some reading or a TV show. It may seem minor but sometimes that’s all you need!
Meditation – I’m still very much a beginner at this and for now, my ‘meditation’ mainly consists of playing falling rain sounds on YouTube, turning all the lights off, sitting Indian style on my bedroom floor with my eyes closed and taking deep breaths. It allows me to calm the inner madness and do some genuine thinking. I’d like to get more into an actual meditation routine and once I do I’ll be sure to blog about it!
Dance it off – This one is truly one of my favs. Most of the things I do to unwind are relaxing but this is also a good way to relieve some stress. Once in a while, depending on how stressful work or other motivations have been, I buy a $5 bottle of champs from Trader Joe’s, set up a playlist of my current favorite songs and drink/dance the night away solo. Maybe this is just a sign of my old age (since I’m basically turning my apt into a club for an hour, instead of going to the actual club). It honestly helps if you’ve got some pent-up resentment towards who knows what, or if you’re just trying to cut loose and not think about anything. I highly recommend it!
Treat yo self – This can be something big or small, like a morning smoothie bowl, a coffee from your favorite café or a new pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing. Just do it. You deserve it.
